Special Issue on “Sustainable Agricultural Water Management under Changing Environment” in Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering (FASE, IF2022: 3.7, Editor-in-Chief: Prof. Fusuo Zhang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering).

Brief introduction on the Special Issue:

Emerging water issues around the world, particularly due to agricultural activities, at different spatial and temporal scales are challenging the sustainable development of human being and society. Agriculture is the largest consumer of global fresh water resources. Its demand and consumption would significantly change under future changing environment. Therefore, sustainable agricultural water management under changing environment is essential for sustainable water development. In this special issue, we collect articles around the world about the impacts of changing environment on water scarcity and water security, future agricultural water demand and consumption, smart water management strategies for water saving, holistic solutions towards to sustainable development goals (SDGs) regarding the target of SDG 6.4, and region-specific agricultural water management experiences. The major topics covered by this special issue are listed but not limited as bellow:

1. Smart water resources management for water saving;

2. Methods towards high-efficient agricultural water utilization;

3. Impacts of human activities on water security and environmental flow requirements;

4. Impacts of climate change on water security and future water management;

5. Water conflicts of transboundary river basins and possible managements;

6. Water scarcity assessment considering different dimensions of water;

7. Holistic solutions towards to sustainable development goals regarding the target of SDG 6.4.

FASE is aimed to drive current and future agricultural productivity and sustainability. Our goal is to use FASE as a platform to foster scientific information flow, stimulate transdisciplinary inquiries that have strong multi-disciplinary connections, and cultivate research and idea exchanges that address agricultural sustainability challenges regionally and globally. FASE emphasizes evidence-based solutions and engineering realization to solve real-world problems. Linking theory to practice and develop real solutions to have significant social impact for achieving sustainable development at local and global scales.

In view of your international standing as a research scientist, we cordially invite you to write a review or research paper for this special issue related to one of the topics listed above with a due day of 31 December 2023. We look forward to receiving a positive response and a one-page abstract from you before you start to draft the article (please send your abstract to wenfeng.liu@cau.edu.cn). Please submit your manuscripts through the FASE online submission system at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/fase and marked the Special Issue “Sustainable Agricultural Water Management under Changing Environment” in your letter or manuscript. The editors will strive to complete the first review process within 1–2 weeks and give you a quick response.
