Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Peking University

2013, Volume 8, Number 6

The Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Peking University (KIAA-PKU) was found in 2007, which was jointly supported by Peking University and Kavli Foundation (USA). KIAA-PKU is dedicated to promote basic research in China with the highest international standards, aims to be a forum for global scientific exchange, an incubator for innovative projects, and a training center for international postdocs and students. KIAA-PKU carries out research on the origin and evolution of astrophysical structures from the scales of planetary systems and stars up to that of the Universe as a whole. Three major research areas at KIAA-PKU: i) Cosmology, first light and galaxy assemblage; ii) Gravitational physics and high-energy phenomena; and iii) Interstellar medium, stars and planets.

2013 Multi-Messenger Transient Astrophysics Workshop

The 2013 Multi-Messenger Transient Astrophysics Workshop took place from May 6-10 at Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Peking University in Beijing, China. More than eighty astronomers and junior researchers attended this workshop. The topics covered various aspects of multi-messenger high-energy astrophysics, especially the prospects of detecting most violent transients in the universe (e.g. gamma-ray bursts) with multi-messenger observational facilities, such as gravitational wave and high-energy neutrino detectors.
