Aims & scope

ENGINEERING Agriculture is an international, interdisciplinary journal dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge, engineering innovation and evidence-based solutions for productive, sustainable, resilient and healthy agricultural and food systems.

The journal publishes research on the scientific, technological, engineering, socioeconomic, policy and management factors that shape current and future agricultural development. It serves as a platform for knowledge exchange and transdisciplinary inquiry, with the aim of addressing major agricultural sustainability challenges at regional and global scales.

The journal covers five major fields and 16 topics:

1. Agricultural Science, Resources and Environment

   (1) Agricultural Sustainability and Green Development

   (2) Soil, Plant and Microbiome Health

   (3) Agroecosystems, Biodiversity and Ecological Engineering

   (4) Crop Nutrition, Water and Soil Management

   (5) Crop Protection, Breeding and Physiology

   (6) Climate Change Impacts, Mitigation and Adaptation in Agriculture

2. Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine

   (7) Animal Genetics, Breeding, Nutrition and Physiology

   (8) Animal Health and Veterinary Medicine

   (9) Animal Production, Welfare and One Health

3. Food, Nutrition and Health

   (10)  Food Science, Processing and Engineering

   (11)  Food Safety, Quality, Nutrition and Human Health

   (12)  Agrifood Biotechnology and Functional Foods

4. Artificial Intelligence and Agricultural Engineering

   (13)  Agricultural Machinery, Robotics and Automation

   (14)  Artificial Intelligence, Sensing, Modelling and Digital Agriculture

5. Agricultural Policy, Economics and Management

   (15)  Agricultural Policy, Regulation and Economics

   (16)  Agrifood Systems, Rural Development and Technology Adoption

The journal welcomes studies conducted at scales ranging from the field, farm and production system to the regional and global levels. To distinguish itself from other journals in the field, ENGINEERING Agriculture particularly encourages contributions that integrate science, engineering, technology, policy and societal impact.

Priority is given to innovative and interdisciplinary studies that:

• Address major challenges in agricultural sustainability, modernization and agrifood-system transformation;

• Integrate scientific discovery, technological innovation and engineering practice through systems thinking;

• Translate research advances into field-based solutions that respond to real-world agricultural and farmer needs and are operational, replicable and scalable;

• Harness artificial intelligence, sensing, modelling, data-driven decision-making, robotics and intelligent equipment to enable system-wide agricultural transformation;

• Evaluate the productivity, efficiency, quality, resilience, environmental, economic and societal outcomes of agricultural innovation, together with the policy, institutional and management conditions that shape its implementation; and

• Develop comparative, affordable and locally adaptable solutions that can be applied across diverse regions, particularly in the Global South, while remaining relevant to developed economies.

The journal publishes original research articles, reviews, perspectives, commentaries and science news. It also publishes thematic “Hot Topic” and special issues on strategically important or emerging areas of agricultural science and engineering. Proposals for special issues are welcome.

ENGINEERING Agriculture is an open-access journal published bimonthly with no page charges. All submitted manuscripts undergo peer review before a publication decision is made.
