As the saying goes, spring always comes after winter.
Cold winter has been driven away by vibrant spring in the past three months. Meanwhile, Wuhan where I live, like a patient, has just recovered from a dangerous illness, and has managed to achieve major phased results in the fight against COVID-19. Today, Wuhan will be re-opened, and over ten million heroic people here will work hard for the rebirth of this great city.
I firmly believe that all the people here will be able to resume normal life, and embrace the world full of flowers. I feel grateful to live in this great land.
When disaster struck, help came from all sides. On January 23, 2020, Wuhan was put under lockdown due to the rampant epidemic. At the critical moment, the People’s Liberation Army, scientists, and medical workers from various places of China, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, rushed to Wuhan to fight against COVID-19. Thanks to their selfless dedication at the risk of life, Wuhan has gradually gotten out of the trouble. Chinese excellent traditions of uniting to forge ahead against hardships have been demonstrated again.
Upon the call of the country, many Chinese scientists represented by Academician Zhong Nanshan resolutely rushed to the front line of fighting against COVID-19. In the shortest time, they identified and named the new coronavirus, and explored effective therapeutic regimens, actively developing vaccines and specific drugs. As the backbone of the Chinese nation, you are knowledgeable, responsible, patriotic, and people-oriented. Your heroic deeds will go down in history.
Our benevolent doctors fulfill their solemn promise of “life first.” When the trumpet sounded for the battle of fighting against deadly COVID-19, all medical workers in Wuhan first rushed to the front line without hesitation, despite huge risks of life due to lack of medical supplies. 14 medical workers including Liu Zhiming, Jiang Xueqing, Li Wenliang, Xia Sisi, and Peng Yinhua sacrificed their lives to save patients’ lives. Zhang Dingyu who is seriously ill but still insists on the frontline day and night, Zhang Jixian who first gave an epidemic alarm, and others have built the line of defense for life. They are all the most lovely and respectable heroes.
Many heroic supporters have left traces in Wuhan. At the most critical moment, more than 30 000 medical workers from 31 provinces and cities across China rushed to Wuhan with the valuable medical supplies. In the fight against deadly COVID-19, they have accumulated valuable experience in beforehand prevention, multidisciplinary cooperation, refined management, treatment of serious illnesses, and so on. Dear medical workers, you have superb medical skills and noble qualities. You are the angels risking life to save others, and also the models and heroes touching China and the whole world. As a citizen of Wuhan, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all medical workers fighting against COVID-19.
I am pleased to see Wuhan has withstood such a severe challenge. However, the epidemic might go rampant again due to limitations in understanding of COVID-19. In particular, the virus is raging around the world now, which is worrying. Special thank is hereby given to many overseas companies and people all over the world for their sincere and selfless help for Wuhan. Now, Chinese medical workers are actively sharing experience with the doctors around the world. I sincerely hope that all countries and people in the world can join hands to address the catastrophe with the power of science and technology, so as to recover global prosperity as soon as possible.
