The effect of rhomotoxin on the carotid pressor reflex
The carotid pressor reflex can be blocked by rhomotoxin. The intensity of the blocking effect depends upon the original level of blood pressure and is in correlation with the dosage of rhomotoxin given intravenously. Thus the antihypertensive effect may be ascribed to some extent to the blockade of carotid pressor reflex caused by rhomotoxin and is irrelevant to the changes of blood volume, since this depression of reflex is more prominent than that at the same blood pressure level induced by bloodletting.
