The authors discuss the possibility, in principle, to develop the reverse torque method based on the simultaneous measurement of the small rotational moment applied to the dental implant and the corresponding angle of rotation due to elastic deformation of the bone tissue. The experimental data are compared with the results of numerical calculations carried out by means of computer simulation.

Methods of laser profilometry, scanning electron microscopy in a combination with electromagnetic resonance technique were used to study the surface microstructure of polymeric base materials designed to manufacture demountable dentures, such as «Ftorax» ("Stoma" Joint-stock company, Ukraine), «Paladon 65» (Heraus Kulzer, Germany, «Valplast» (Valplast International Corporation, USA), «Flexite - MP» (Flexite company, USA), and «Polyan». The data obtained are compared with the characteristics of the natural teeth enamel surface. It is demonstrated that the modified polymer based on «Polyan» polymethyl methacrylate of the Polyapress system manufactured by the injection, casting, and compression techniques has the surface whose microstructure and microrelief closely resemble the same characteristics of the natural teeth enamel surface.

The results of experimental studies on the development of macroglossia in animals are discussed with special reference to the adaptive capacity of the lingual tissue. The evaluation of the influence of macroglossia on the osteomuscular complex of the oral cavity-tongue system demonstrated the enlargement of the myocardial mass and the enhancement of energy exchange in cardiomyocytes.

Promotion of the children's health is the main challenge facing this country in the near and distant future because all prospects for its further social and economic, scientific and cultural developments as well as high living standards of the population depend on the quality of the children's health. The importance of this problem is emphasized by the fact that all the experience accumulated by the Russian public health services and all the achievements of world's science indicate that disregard of the importance of early rehabilitation leaves no hope for the efficacious corrective and remedial treatment of children and adolescents presenting with cleft lip, alveolar process, and palate.

Examination of 305 patients presenting with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has demonstrated the high intensity and prevalence of dental caries (p < 0.05). The leading role in the development of RA morbidity is played by the affection of salivary glands akin to Sjogren's syndrome and, in its absence, by the long-standing disturbance of the function of the temporomandibular joints and wrist joints as well as by the enhanced clinical and immunological activity of rheumatoid arthritis.

Comparative morphometric analysis of the reparative processes in the bone tissue of rats with mandibular fractures was carried out to elucidate conditions for the integration of perftoran into combined lymphotropic antibacterial therapy. Perftoran was shown to increase the number of blood vessels, macrophages and osteoblasts in the affected regions. Moreover, this agent optimizes interactions between the cells in these regions and exerts positive influence on selected components of the inflammatory reaction. This, in turn, creates the favourable conditions for the early switching of mechanisms participating in the reparative process.

The approaches to diagnostics of compromised mandibular movements are described as exemplified by 31 patients presenting with displacement of the meniscus. The results of clinical examination, magnetoresonance tomography, and axiography made it possible to detect the characteristic articular trajectories for each type of meniscus position.

In order to determine the significance of clinical and densitometric characteristics for the assessment of the risk of periodontal diseases we have undertaken clinical dental examination of 332 men at the age of 21-53 years. The study included the analysis of anamnestic data and objective evaluation of caries intensity along with the determination of hygienic and periodontal indices (OHI-S, PMA, PI). Using the multivariate analysis of 8 signs, we have developed a test making it possible to predict the development of periodontitis with an accuracy of more than 70%.

A method is proposed for the reconstruction of ceramic coating of artificial tooth crowns. The use of the Prof Press feldspar ceramic makes it possible to restore in the indirect manner the splitted ceramic coating with a good aesthetic result and to simultaneously enhance its mechanical strength.

The authors report the results of the surgical treatment of 61 patients presenting with perforative maxillary sinusitis. In 29 patients, the oroanthral communication was closed with the use of a buccal flap, in 39 cases a vascularized subepithelial palatal flap was used for plastic correction of the defect. It is concluded that the proposed method has some advantages over the traditional approach in that it better preserves the prosthetic bed.

The present comprehensive medico-statistical study of the frequency and causes of maxillofacial defects (MFD) encompassed the population of four administrative districts of the Russian Federation. It revealed the distribution of the MFD incidence data by age, gender, and etiological factors. The information has been collected giving an idea of how the patients' needs in maxillofacial prosthetic treatment are satisfied.

The present work was designed to analyse the sociological aspects of dental implantation. The sociological questionnaire study that involved the dentists of stomatological organizations provided materials which were used to characterize current clinical, organizational, and economic problems facing specialists treating partial or total adontia with the use of artificial support for the denture.

The article is devoted to the substantiation of the necessity of marketing research for the successful functioning of stomatological medical organizations under the current socio-economic conditions. The factors that influence the stomatological aid appealability of the patients in state-owned and private clinics have been elucidated. It turned out that on the whole the patients prefer female dental therapists and orthopedists. The frequency of visits to dental surgeons, therapists, and orthopedists depends on the social status, education, and financial standing of the patients. The results of the study may be used to improve the planning of the scope of medical services and to encourage the formation of the health-seeking behavior in the general population.
