This work was designed to study the influence of NO synthase donors and blockers on the morphological structure of the dental pulp and periodontal tissues in laboratory animals under stressful conditions. It was shown that L-arginine, a donor of NO synthase molecules, can slow down the development of stress-induced reactions and reduce the severity of morphofunctional changes in the dental pulp and periodontal tissues.

The strength, elasticity, and fatigue bending resistance are believed to be the indispensable properties of stomatological base plastic materials used to manufacture removable dental prostheses. We undertook a comparative analysis of the changes in the character of elastic restoration (elastic deformation) of different specimens of base plastics under initial conditions and after incubation in a model saliva solution. Electron digital speckle interferometry was used to identify major features distinguishing the Valplast plastic base from analogous materials in terms of elastic restoration of the shape of the specimens after releasing the load. This material displays the maximum incremental bending. It was shown that exposure to the model saliva solution reduces its strength and related characteristics.

The authors present an experimentally-deduced rationale for the application of cell technologies to dental implantation. Autologous mesenchymal stem cells isolated from adipose tissue and differentiated towards osteogenesis are used to coat the implants. Their influence on the process of osteointegration is evaluated.

The significance of different factors involved in the systemic genesis of dental caries and responsible for high intensity of this condition and its complications in patients presenting with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is discussed. The effect of severity of articular syndrome (in the first place of the lesions in the wrist joints and the temporomandibular joint) is evaluated. It is shown that this effect is largely related to the systemic disturbances in mineral metabolism associated with the primary disease, concomitant Sjogren's syndrome, and abnormal mineralizing function of the saliva. The results of the study suggest a highly intensive carious process in patients presenting with rheumatoid arthritis and may be useful for the elucidation of the causes underlying this clinical condition.

Clinical and cost-effectiveness analysis of different therapeutic modalities applied to treat 110 patients presenting with moderately severe chronic generalized periodontitis and concomitant type 2 diabetes mellitus. The data on the relationship between the treatment expenditures and clinical efficacy were used to substantiate the most cost-effective strategies for the management of periodontitis including removal of the pulp in the teeth with estimated grade 2 mobility.

The present in vitro experimental study had the objective to compare the adhesive power of different microorganisms known to occur in the oral cavity with respect to base prosthetic materials. The oral microbial flora was presented by the following species: Streptococcus milleri, Streptococcus mutans, Enterococcus faecalis, Actinomyces naeslundii, Candida albicans, Veillonella parvula, Prevotella intermedia, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans. We evaluated their adhesion to base cold- polymerized plastics Redont and Protakril (both the Ukraine), heat-polymerized plastics Ftoraks (the Ukraine) and StmAkril (Russia), and to polyurethane-based Dentalur (Russia). The removable laminar prostheses for patients presenting with either complete or partial edentia were manufactured by EHF-polymerization of a relevant base plastic material.

Stomatological biofilms Diplen K and Diplen G were used to treat patients presenting with chronic generalized periodontitis. The most characteristic general and local features of this pathological condition associated with type 1 periodontopathogenic bacteria were identified. It was shown that Diplen biofilms applied in combination with antibiotics clindamycin and immunomodulator galavit substantially suppress inflammatory reactions; moreover, they appear to reduce alteration of periodontal tissues. At the same time, clindamycin slows down the development and invasion of microorganisms which leads to a significant decrease in the number of the most aggressive anaerobic bacteria or their complete elimination; also, it strengthens the positive effect of the combined treatment. The patients reported the improvement of the overall health and needed no additional therapy.

Examination by general clinical methods including registration of mandibular movements, electromyography, and spiral computed tomography provided information that was used to develop a sequence of therapeutic measures designed to restore the height of the lower part of the face, normalize occlusion relations and elements of the temporomandibular joint, and to correct the function of the muscular-ligamentous apparatus.

This article highlights the problem of optimization of the prevention and treatment of traumatic sinusitis in patients suffering zygomaxillary fractures. A method has been developed to manage this pathology with the use of a fixing instillator. The application of this device is shown to allow fixation of bone fragments to be performed simultaneously with fractional dialysis of the maxillary sinus using antiseptic preparations. The proposed method prevents the development of traumatic sinusitis. Its clinical efficiency was evaluated using multispiral computed tomography, microbiological and immunological tests.

The present study confirms the necessity of using a scientifically sound differential approach to the choice of hygienic products for obtaining the bleaching effect and the desirability of applying whitening tooth pastes for the improvement of tooth colour. The results may help specialists to choose between a variety of commercially available bleaching preparations and recommend their patients the most efficacious and safe ones for routine hygienic procedures.

The methods for direct and indirect tooth restoration have recently found the increasingly extensive application in the general structure of stomatological care provided to the population. Meantime, the majority of the responders interviewed in the course of the present study turned out to be poorly aware of the modern techniques for direct and indirect aesthetic restoration of hard tooth tissues. This finding implies the necessity of enhanced attention to the problem in question at all levels of pre- and post-diploma education of doctor-stomatologists trained in this important (especially in the current context) field.

The authors present data concerning the prevalence and structure of dentofacial abnormalities in 200 children of indigenous peoples residing at the territory of Khabarovsk krai (territory). The study is based on the results of examination carried out in three groups of children: living in the city of Khabarovsk, different locations of the region, and Orphan Home No 1. Patients from the Orphan Home showed the highest prevalence of dentofacial abnormalities associated with frequent tooth extraction.
