A method for the plastic reconstruction of the oroanthral communication with the use of a vascularized subepithelial palatal flap
The authors report the results of the surgical treatment of 61 patients presenting with perforative maxillary sinusitis. In 29 patients, the oroanthral communication was closed with the use of a buccal flap, in 39 cases a vascularized subepithelial palatal flap was used for plastic correction of the defect. It is concluded that the proposed method has some advantages over the traditional approach in that it better preserves the prosthetic bed.
