Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering is an international peer-reviewed academic journal. The journal seeks to provide a forum for a broad blend of high-quality academic papers in order to promote rapid communication and exchange between researchers, scientists, and engineers in the field of mechanical engineering.
Ultra-precision machining has been considered as one of the important fundamentals for the development of science and technology. The demands for ultra-precision machining of difficult-to-cut materials brings huge challenges in the manufacturing science and technology. So far, the field-assisted machining technology has been expected as an effective strategy in ultra-precision manufacturing. The main objective of this special issue is to bring together the innovative ideas from the international research community, to present the latest developments, and to advance the fields of field-assisted ultra-precision machining.

Subject Coverage
We invite authors to submit original research to this Special Issue in following potential topics. The topics will include, but not limited to:
● Surface formation in field-assisted machining
● Surface and sub-surface integrity in field-assisted machining
● Ultra-precision manufacturing with field-assisted machining
● Functional surface fabrication with field-assisted machining
● Mechanism of interaction between materials and tools 
● Models and experiments for energy fields
● In-situ measurement and monitoring

The submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. All papers are refereed through a peer review process.
