Clinical significance of lymphocyte transformation test in gynecological malignancies
Since 1973 lymphocyte transformation rate (LTR) was performed by us in 52 healthy women, in 22 patients suffering from gynecological benign tumors and in 46 patients with gynecological malignancies. The average percentage of LTR in 52 healthy women was 62.1%, that in patients with benign tumor was 51.3%, that in malignancy was 44.4%. Statistically the average value of LTR in the malignancy group was lower than that in the benign tumor group, the LTR of both benign and malignant tumor groups were obviously lower than those of healthy women
LTR was of a certain value in evaluation of the prognosis. Of the 32 cases of ovarian malignancy who were treated, 15 of them achieved remission, the remaining 17 cases got worse. Studing the LTR of these two groups before treatment we noticed that the average value in the remission group was higher than in the deteriorated group. It shows that before treatment the immunologic response in remission group is relatively higher than those in deteriorated group. Serial assays were carried out in 12 cases before and after the treatment. The LTR decreased in all deteriorated patients, while in the remission group the LTR increased in comparison with the initial value. Therefore serial assay of LTR before and after treatment to compare with each other played an important role in evaluation of prognosis
