It is with great honour and a deep sense of responsibility that I present the inaugural issue of our journal under its new title, Translational Neurology and Neurosurgery (ISSN: 2097-7492; CN: 11-9363/R).
This new title signifies far more than a formal change in name. It marks a renewed commitment to advancing translational scholarship in neurology and neurosurgery at a time when scientific discovery is accelerating at an unprecedented pace, while the pathway from laboratory insight to clinical implementation remains both challenging and essential. In adopting this title, we reaffirm our mission to serve as an international platform for rigorous, high-impact research that bridges basic science, clinical investigation, and patient-centred medical practice.
Built on a strong foundation
The future development of this journal is supported by the combined strengths of Higher Education Press and Capital Medical University, two institutions whose longstanding contributions provide a firm foundation for this new stage of growth.
Founded in 1954, Higher Education Press has played a distinguished role in academic publishing in China. Its extensive editorial expertise, advanced digital publishing capacity, and expanding international presence offer strong institutional support for the journal’s continued development and global visibility.
Capital Medical University contributes equally substantial academic and clinical resources to this endeavour. Supported by the National Center for Neurological Disorders and leading affiliated hospitals, including Xuanwu Hospital and Beijing Tiantan Hospital, the journal is exceptionally well positioned to engage with significant developments in neurological disease research and neurosurgical practice. Major areas of continuing interest will include, among others, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, and innovation in neurosurgical techniques and technologies.
Our vision
As Translational Neurology and Neurosurgery enters this new phase, it will be guided by three core commitments.
Clinical relevance. We seek to publish research of clear translational value, with the potential to improve patient care and inform clinical decision-making. We particularly welcome studies addressing disease mechanisms, diagnostic approaches, surgical strategies, therapeutic interventions, and clinical outcomes.
International exchange. Meaningful progress in medicine depends upon sustained collaboration across disciplines, institutions, and national boundaries. We are committed to cultivating an open, rigorous, and intellectually vibrant forum that promotes dialogue among researchers, clinicians, and scholars throughout the world.
Efficiency and accessibility. In an era of rapidly evolving medical knowledge, timely dissemination is of critical importance. Through the use of advanced electronic publishing tools, we aim to ensure an efficient peer-review and publication process while enhancing the accessibility and visibility of important scientific findings for the broader medical community.
Looking ahead
The translation of scientific knowledge into effective clinical practice is neither straightforward nor immediate. It is a demanding, iterative, and collaborative process. Yet it is precisely through this process that scientific research achieves its highest purpose: improving patient outcomes, informing clinical innovation, and deepening our understanding of the nervous system in health and disease.
We warmly invite researchers, clinicians, and scholars in related fields to contribute to the journal through their submissions, peer-review efforts, and academic engagement. It is our sincere hope that Translational Neurology and Neurosurgery will grow into a respected international forum for the dissemination of significant research and for the advancement of scholarly dialogue across the neurological sciences.
