    It had long been discussed already about the characteristics of the recent earthquake of the Xiamen-Jinmen area. However,attention should be paid that a large shock unexpected before as the 1999 Chi-Chi Large Earthquake in Taiwan west-plain, would take place in this area and its neighborhood and affect the stability of the construction during the long duration after the completion and usage of the future Xiamen-Jinmen Bridge. The probability of such case should be considered from the study of the earthquake mechanism of the surrounding regions,i.e. the Taiwan Strait Basin,Taiwan region (Taiwan Island) and Fujian coastal region respectively. This paper describes and discusses the features of earthquakes occurred and will occur in any one of these 3 regions and how they would affect the Xiamen-Jinmen area wherein the Xiamen-Jinmen Bridge constructed.

    With the development of turbot cultivation and market, turbot has been proved to be a high-quality species grown-out in China. After several-year practice, the primary intensive culture model has formed in the northern part of China. The production of turbot fries in the year 2004 is around 35 million and the commercial fish 20 thousand tonnes. As a result, China has become one of the largest countries in turbot culture and consumption in the world. Turbot culture industry has not only made great contribution to the development of marine culture industry and the littoral areas economy but also laid a theoretical and practical foundation for the intensive marine fish culture industry in China. Particularly, the accession of China to WTO brought new development opportunity for turbot culture. Those new ideas and objectives are driving the turbot culture industry into an updated stage, on which turbot will be developed in a standardized, large scale genetic breeding, the industry of special formula feeds with balanced nutrition, and the recirculation system.

    In this paper two topics are discussed. One is the summary of creative personality. It expounds three questions: the connotation of personality, and the functions of personality, the necessity for studying and publicizing the creative personalities of scientists in modern China. The other topic is the basic qualities of the scientists' creative personalities in China. From the biographies and relevant literatures of tens of representative modern scientists in China, ten basic qualities of China scientists' creative personality are summed up: the first is the noble idea and ambition; the second is the patriotism spirit; the third is the team spirit; the forth is the spirit of raising and discussing questions; the fifth is the synthesis and innovative spirit; the sixth is dedication and adventure spirit; the seventh is the realistic and rigorous scholarship; the eighth is the spirit of making a firm resolution in adversity environment; the ninth is the spirit of respecting teacher and caring for posterity; the tenth is the spirit of struggling for the top-ranking and re-creating glory.

    Can mechanical faults be controlled and eliminated at machine's run-time? Can a machine heal itself, as a living person or animal? What can be done before shutting down and overhauling a machine? Under the guidance of the systemics theory,borrowing the idea of “self-recuperation” therapeutic methdology in modern medicinal science, e.g.,the knowledge about the mechanisms of immunity, protection, compensation, regeneration, adaptation, etc., with the fault prevention and self-healing as the goal, this paper focuses on the study of the fault self-recovery principle and its engineering application, i.e. Fault Self-recovery Engineering (FSE), which can provide theoretical basis in developing a new generation of self-healing machine.

Calculating and analyzing model of equivalent viscosity with viscotemperature correcting is founded. The performance analysis calculation is processed under thin film lubrication. The change law of bearing performance is obtained at different parameters.

    This paper presents four criteria to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of supply chain. It proposes an integrated decision model under MTO manufacturing strategy for multi-chain assignment problem. Study shows that under the specific operation environment the core decision makers of supply chain can apply the integrated decision model dynamically, so as to maximize the whole efficiency and effectiveness of the alliance and maintain its stability.

    Seeing on that in BPNN the small learning gene will make the long training time, but the large learning gene will make the BPNN surging, this paper brings forward a way to modify the learning gene, that is, adding a proportion gene before the learning gene, The proportion gene will change when the weight of the BPNN needs to be modified. This can shorten the training time and make convergence better as well. The simulating results show that the new algorithm is much better than the old one during BPNN scouting the missile command.

    Feasibility and use of Ethernet in distributed system are discussed. Four industrial Ethernet protocols, which meet the requirement of distributed control, are analyzed, and so are their relative advantages and weakness. The things the device vendors should consider to support these protocols and the means to add Ethernet connectivity to their product are proposed.

    By analyzing the feature of the process for the recycled waste gas in furnace, let the volume of waste circulation be constant, the guantitative mathematical relations between the volume flow of waste gas and the recycled times of waste gas which goes into combustion-supporting air in furnace were built, and the quantitative mathematical relations between the density of oxygen in waste gas and the recycled times were built. By using the limit mathematic law, the quantitative mathematical formulation of the limit density of oxygen was gotten. On the basis of this, the quantitative mathematical formulations of oxygen density in combustion-supporting air and in flammable mixture were built. By using the similar methods, the mathematical calculating formulations of the density for other compositions were inferred. It provides the base for checking and analyzing the gas composition at different stages in real production process.

    The two-phase partitioning bioreactor is usually applied in many bioprocesses for enhancing the productivity. The controlled substrate delivery from the non-aqueous phase to aqueous phase opens a new area of application of this strategy for enhancing the substrate solubility and eliminating the substrate inhibition of bioprocesses, such as bioconversion, biodegradation, etc. The extraction product from bioreaction phase has advantages over conventional media, such as removing the product inhibition on the microorganism, protecting the product form further degradation and cutting down the effluent treatment costs as a result of the use of a more concentrated feedstock. This article examines recent research on methods of the two-phase partitioning bioreactor. The practical potential of cloud point system as a novel two-phase partitioning bioreactor is illustrated by reference to a particular bioconversion, namely the side-chain cleavage of cholesterol to produce a pharmaceutical intermediate androsta-diene-dione (ADD).

    In order to get the theoretical reference for making high efficiency porous electrode, microscopic mechanism and macroscopic phenomena of the porous electrode reaction were explored by new ideas and new methods. The superiority of the vertical porous gas electrode to the traditional electrode was proved by the zinc-air battery discharge experiment. By the experiment, three macroscopic time-varied courses of the three-phase interfaced shape variation were observed. According to electrochemical processes corresponding to the three macroscopic courses, two kinds of typical three-phase interface formed in the electrode reaction were defined. The microscopic mechanism of the electrolyte movement in the porous electrode was analyzed. It was concluded that the ideal discontinuity interface is the optimal active state of the gas porous electrode.

    This paper deals with the utilization of the all-set method and ME altering in the problem of market intelligent economy controlling model. The model abstracts the beginning and end of enterprises into ME of extension theory. The authors alter the primary ME of economical body by means of all-set, jieke theory, vague controlling and extension theory and get the final satisfactory ME. The all-set theory contains such subjects as fuzzy set, vague set, extension set, SPA, FEEC. The authors combine these subjects and propose the all-set market intelligent economy controlling theory. In addition, there are some practical examples in the paper.

    A set of full scale contrast tests, with different relative positions of air supply opening and smoke exhaust opening, were conducted in an 88 m long underground corridor to study the effect of position of air supply opening on the efficiency of smoke extraction in a long channel. Results showed that the rule for designing the relative positions of air supply openings and smoke exhaust openings or operating them in a long channel should be “Smoke exhaust near the fire with air supply far away from the fire”.
