DXY founder Tiantian Li recently held an in-depth conversation with the three Co-Editors-in-Chief of SKIN—Prof. Xinghua Gao, Prof. Yong Cui, and Prof. Henry W. Lim—to explore a central question:
Why does Chinese dermatology need an English-language journal?
The discussion also covered the journal’s distinctive positioning, the design of its “New Quality Productive Forces” section, and its mission to advance global skin health.

Prof. Xinghua Gao:
Prof. Gao compared dermatology to the ocean—vast, boundless, and filled with opportunities for exploration. An English-language journal originating from China, he noted, is like a vessel that enables Chinese dermatology to navigate the deep sea of global scientific discovery.
Prof. Henry W. Lim:
Having witnessed the development of Chinese dermatology over more than two decades, Prof. Lim emphasized the remarkable progress achieved by the field. “An English-language journal is essential for helping the world understand the advances and contributions of Chinese dermatology.”
Prof. Yong Cui:
Prof. Cui highlighted the importance of empowering the next generation. More than 40% of the journal’s Editorial Board members are young and mid-career experts, reflecting a commitment to enabling emerging leaders to both introduce international advances to China and share Chinese experiences with the world.
On March 14, 2026, the 2026 Symposium on the Development of High-Level Dermatology Journals was held at Lake View Hotel in Beijing, during which the Editorial Board Meeting of the journal Skin also took place.
