Based on the Irrotational Green-Naghdi (IGN) framework, this study develops a finite-depth Numerical Wave Tank (NWT) equipped with a nonlinear incident-wave boundary condition based on stream-function theory, which enables long-duration stable simulations of three-dimensional (3D) oblique waves in finite-depth water. The IGN equations adopted in this study are derived from Hamilton’s principle and formulated by representing the vertical velocity distribution within each fluid column using prescribed shape functions. To provide nonlinear boundary input, the stream-function solution of Rienecker and Fenton (1981) is first projected into a 3D oblique-wave configuration and then further projected onto the vertical basis functions of the finite-depth IGN model to obtain the nonlinear boundary coefficients required by the solver. On this basis, a nonlinear regular-wave case is first validated against experimental data, followed by numerical verifications of 3D oblique waves with different wave steepnesses, water depths, and propagation angles. The results show that, over the cases considered, the proposed boundary treatment accurately reproduces the main free-surface and kinematic features of the prescribed oblique waves. Subsequent simulations of highly nonlinear 3D oblique waves further demonstrate that the model maintains long-duration stability and yields results in close agreement with the stream-function solutions. Therefore, the proposed method provides a new numerical framework for simulating nonlinear 3D oblique waves in finite-depth water.
