Where can I find a detailed description of the properties of optoquine and its clinical applications? Subscriber # 460.
Answer: Optoquine, or ethyl-hydro-cupreine, is a white crystalline powder that is difficult to dissolve in water. Depending on this property, it is recommended to replace optoquine with its easily water-soluble hydrochloricum salt. The latter drug is prescribed in 1-2% solution. as eye drops, and in ointments. Sterilization of the solution is optional. I. Morgenroth and I. Tugendreich recommend optoquine together with Na salicylic. for the treatment of sleeping sickness and pneumonia. We find a more detailed description of the use of optoquine in Berlin. klin. Wochenschrift, 1913 pp. 1207, and in the Medical Calendar for 1915. Prof. P. Gorst.
