Abstract

The author informs that out of 1298 cases, admitted to the Zurich Surgical Clinic during the last 5 years with the diagnosis of acute appendicitis, in 252 (20%) the recognition proved to be erroneous. In ³/₄ of these latter cases the diagnosis was corrected by investigation before the operation and in ¹/₄ the diagnosis was discovered only during the operation.
