The use of coal preparations in medicine has now become widespread. Coal, especially activated coal, has the ability to absorb enzymes and antienzymes in significant quantities and a high ability to adsorb gaseous, vaporous and dissolved substances. This ability is a consequence of the highly developed specific surface area and the corresponding nature of the porosity of coal, which favors capillary condensation.
