The need of a versatile cabbage harvesting machine development is shown. The description of machine designs is given, main operational data is brought.
Authors reveal the main causes of excessive grain damage during its processing in grain cleaning machines. They suggest a design of pneumatic separator based on the using of air stream which separates grain and other bulk materials, it allows to reduce the seed damage by decreasing the critical speed of fracture initiation.
The article analyzes main reasons of grain damage and loss in threshing and separating devices of various types. It gives some recommendations on the use of transverse threshing drums.

The possibility of using one-stage technologies on the basis of new high-efficiency combine harvester RSM-181 with axial-rotor thresher is proved.
