The emergency of a new round of the industrial revolution calls for a major transformation in materials R&D modes. We are tackling the challenge of slow and costly traditional R&D modes with the concept of “materials genome engineering (MGE)”, put forward by materials scientists. With strong and coordinated support from all over the world, MGE has become one of the most important frontier research fields in materials science and engineering. More significantly, because of its interdisciplinary nature, MGE has received interest from not only materials scientists but also researchers that work on computer science, data science, and electrical engineering, etc.
However, there has not been a journal dedicated solely for MGE research to report on all three main technologies: high-efficiency computation, advanced experiments, big data technology and their integration. Which greatly contrasts to the strong need from authors of this newly established and rapidly evolving research community. Materials Genome Engineering Advances (MGE Advances) will fill this important gap.
We will gather innovative achievements from various MGE-related fields and foster an interdisciplinary environment and culture. Our platform will significantly promote the formation of the whole MGE chain of advanced computing, intelligent experiment and big data technology to accelerate materials R&D and the progress in the materials science discipline in general.
