Research on Abnormal Eating Behaviors in People with Dementia: A Review

Abstract

Abnormal Eating Behaviors (AEBs) are prevalent among people with dementia. It not only affect the nutritional status and quality of life of people with dementia, but also significantly increase the caregiving burden on caregivers and financial burden, ultimately compromising the quality of care. Given the multifaceted negative impacts of AEBs on both people with dementia and their caregivers, a deeper understanding of their core clinical features, as well as evidence-based assessment and management strategies, holds significant importance. This article provides a review of current research in this field, with particular emphasis on identifying critical gaps in existing intervention paradigms to guide future research directions, aiming to inform evidence-based clinical practice.
