Biosketch:
Dr. Huitinga completed her undergraduate training in Medical Biology at Free University in Amsterdam from 1980-1988, and earned her PhD degree in Cell Biology and Immunology at VU University Medical Center (Vumc) from 1988-1992. She was a postdoc supervised by Prof. C. D. Dijkstra in VUmc from 1992-1996, and completed further postdoctoral training with Prof. D. F. Swaab and Prof. F. J. H. Tilders at Netherlands Institute for Brain Research from 1996-1999. Dr. Huitinga became a multiple sclerosis research fellow then staff member of Netherlands Institute for Brain Research during 1999-2006. She has served as the director of the Netherlands Brain Bank (NBB) since 2006. Dr. Huitinga has published over 90 scholarly articles including in Lancet Neurology. Since its start in 1985, the NBB has provided tissue from more than 3700 autopsies of which 700 Alzheimer’s disease, 124 Parkinson’s disease, 1000 controls and 1100 other diseases to 400 research projects all over the world, resulting in 600 papers. The NBB has over 2500 registered donors.
