Yi-Cheng Zhu, M.D.

Biosketch:

Yi-Cheng Zhu works as a practicing neurologist since 1995, and she is currently the chair in department of neurology, at Peking Union Medical College hospital. Dr. Zhu’s research interest is in the cerebral vascular disease in aging population, with a specific focus on the impact of cerebral small vessel disease to neurodegenerative process and to the neurological function in the elderly. She worked in Paris from 2008-2010 supervised by Prof Hugues Chabriat and Prof Christophe Tzourio, and participated as a researcher with specific focus on neuroimage analysis of cerebral small vessel disease in 3C study. She directs a research team setting up several longitudinal cohort studies in China, including a population-based cohort study, named Shunyi study, initiated in 2013(1,787 participants), PUMC Aging Cohort of Voluntary Body Donator began from 2017(885 participants), and a multicenter cohort study of cerebral small vessel disease in over 20 hospitals in China from 2015 (over 1,000 participants). Dr. Zhu built a diagnostic criteria and severity scale for the evaluation of dilated Virchow-Robin spaces (dVRS) and reported the CSVD burden in Chinese population. She has been closely collaborated with computer scientists to build a digital system for the quantitative evaluation of the hand function and gait.
