Biosketch:
Chao Ma graduated from Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) with M.D. degree in 1999. After 1-year of surgical residency training in the PUMC Hospital, Dr. Ma went to Yale University School of Medicine, USA as a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Anesthesiology in 2000, and was promoted to tenure-track Assistant Professor in 2008 to investigate the neural mechanisms of pain and itch under the support of NIH. Starting from December 2011, Dr. Ma returned to PUMC and was appointed as Professor and Chair of Human Anatomy, Histology and Embryology in the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and PUMC. Dr. Ma’s research focused on the mechanisms and therapeutic strategy of neurological diseases and serve as the founding Director of the National Human Brain Bank for Development and Function. He is currently the Vice President and Secretary General of Chinese Society for Anatomical Sciences, and the President of Beijing Society for Anatomical Sciences. Dr. Ma won a number of academic awards including the “Young Anatomical Scientist in China” by CSAS in 2016, and the “Beijing Brain Scholar” by Chinese Institute for Brain Research, Beijing in 2020, China Medical Science and Technology Award in 2022, and the State Council Special Government Allowance in 2024.
