Background

Frontiers of Engineering Management is an international research journal supervised by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, administered jointly by Chinese Academy of Engineering, Higher Education Press, Tsinghua University, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and co-published by Higher Education Press and Springer in English in both print and online versions quarterly. Frontiers of Engineering Management provides a high-quality international platform for academic researchers, industry professionals and other constituent communities in the broad field of engineering management to impart and share the latest research results and knowledge in the form of research articles, reviews, comments, and super engineering.

Aims and Scope

The rapid growth of urban populations, coupled with increasing congestion and environmental concerns, has prompted the exploration of innovative transportation solutions that can reshape the future of urban mobility. Among these, Urban Air Mobility (UAM) is emerging as a key component in the evolution of transportation systems, offering the potential to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce pollution, and enhance the efficiency of urban logistics. With advancements in electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, autonomous drones, and other aerial vehicles, UAM is poised to revolutionize not only passenger transportation but also goods movement within cities. This special issue seeks to explore the transformative potential of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and its integration with urban logistics systems, highlighting innovative solutions that are shaping the future of urban transportation. We invite contributions that examine the technological, economic, and regulatory challenges and opportunities of UAM, with an emphasis on how these systems can be effectively integrated into existing urban infrastructure. We aim to bring together research that explores new models for UAM, including electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, autonomous drones, and urban air freight solutions. Papers may focus on the design and optimization of air transportation systems, infrastructure development, urban planning, safety and regulatory considerations, environmental impact, and social acceptance. We also welcome contributions that address the role of logistics in urban mobility.
