The temporomandibular joint is one of the most complex joints in the human body anatomically and morphologically. It works nearly constantly, ensuring the physiological needs of the body and communication links with the external environment. Muscular and articular dysfunctions of the temporomandibular joint are among the most common diseases of the maxillofacial region. The article systematizes modern knowledge and ideas about the etiology and pathogenesis of temporomandibular joint dysfunction.
