Abstract

The article describes the methodological shortcomings of the standard formulation of the electrodynamics of moving material bodies: restriction of inertial motion of the bodies, the use of material relations in the form of linear equations with constant coefficients, absence of analytically correct transition to quasi-stationary electromagnetic processes. It is shown that these disadvantages can be overcome by using of experimental fact of absence of the electromagnetic field’s rest mass and applying the asymptotic expansions of the fields on the small parameters, which is the ratio of bodies’ speed to the light speed and the ratio of technical device sizes to the minimum length of the electromagnetic wave.
