A clinical case of the successful treatment of Irvine-Gass syndrome in a child

Abstract

The clinical manifestations and successful therapy of Irvine-Gass syndrome in a 12 year-old child are described. It was shown that Irvine-Gass syndrome can develop not only in the form of vitreo-corneal traction leading to macular oedema not infrequently with the formation of the cysts in the macula but can also be accompanied by the traction effect on the disk of the optic nerve as revealed by optical coherent tomography (OCT). The use of YAG laser irradiation for the dissection of the vitreo-corneal adhesions can eliminate traction Irvine-Gass syndrome without the surgical opening of the eye and result in the restoration of the normal anatomical structures of the eye with the improvement of visual acuity and the prevention of the development of macular degeneration leading to the irreversible loss of vision in a child.
