The prevalence of dental caries in the high-altitude regions of the Republic of Dagestan and the rationale for the development of the program for its prophylaxis
The survey of dental caries prevalence and intensity was carried out among the populations of three high-altitude regions of the Republic of Dagestan. A total of 1,800 subjects (600 in each region) aged between 35 and 74 years were examined. The study has demonstrated a well-apparent tendency toward deterioration of the state of the dento-maxillary system during the period from 2006 to 2008. The data obtained suggest the necessity to develop and introduce the program for the prevention of dento-maxillary diseases among the populations of the high-altitude regions of the Republic of Dagestan.
