Abstract

The objective of the present study was to compare the results of the treatment of 349 patients presenting with severe acute pancreatitis complicated by the presence of pancreatogenic infiltrate. Combined therapy of all the patients included hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) procedures and the application of ultrahigh-frequency electromagnetic radiation (UHF therapy). Analysis of the results of the study indicate that a combination of HBO and UHF therapy starting from the early period of the formation of pancreatogenic infiltrate promotes activation of non-specific adaptive reactions and decreases the frequency of development of pyo-destructive complications by a factor of two. At the same time, the use of HBO results in a significant increase of the number of patients with uncomplicated resorption of pancreatogenic infiltrate. This and other therapeutic effects of HBO indicate that this method has certain advantages in comparison with UHF therapy.
