Abstract

Direct methods for laboratory detection of Trichomonas vaginalis in urogenital trichomoniasis (UT) were comparative analyzed.Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) showed the highest sensitivity and specificity irrespective of the topic (urethritis, urethroprostatitis) and the duration of male UT and the intensity of inflammation. Moreover, the values of the prognostic value of negative and positive results may serve as main criteria for developing new diagnostic test systems for UT.
