Abstract

The paper deals with the life and activity of the outstanding bacteriologist Nikolay Mikhailovich Berestnev. His actions to control contagious diseases (plague, cholera, malaria, actinomycosis) in the Russian Empire the late 19th to the early 20th century are analyzed. His activity as the head of a fort "Emperor Alexander I" is described.
