Abstract

Depression in elderly persons is poorly described in modern scientific literature. For many practitioners depressive disorders are thought as age-related, so they are poorly diagnosed and treated in primary care system and general medical practice. Basic data on frequency, treatment tactics, diagnostics, and the therapy of depressive disorders are described. There is presented an assessment of specific symptomatology and specific features for depressive disorders in the elderly patients. Scheme of treating with antidepressants shows its main forms which are generally used medical practice.
