PSYCHOSOCIAL FACTORS OF ADDICTIONS IN VARIOUS CULTURES

Abstract

The authors disclose the traits of traditional, modern, and postmodern culture that contribute in the development and dynamics of the addictions. Psychosocial factors typical for the previous USSR are analyzed, which included the limitation of personal freedom, low geographical mobility, with the forced by law impossibility to change voluntarily the place of work. There was stressed the significance of informational flow, personal responsibility for decision making, the superficiality of interpersonal relationships and shortage of time in modern and postmodern culture. The characteristics of contemporary addictions are described and their difference from addictions in the traditional society. The new combined process-chemical addiction in women is revealed.
