On the pupillary reaction during transection of the optic nerve inside the skull
In September 1901, at a congress of physiologists in Turin, Marenhi demonstrated to members of Congress two rabbits in which he had performed a unilateral transection of the optic nerve inside the skull. In both rabbits, a light reaction was noted on the operated side, which differed from the reaction of the uninjured side in its lethargy and limited size. This paradoxical fact was observed by Marenhi in several operated animals, both immediately after the operation and for many months after it.
