Abstract

Infections of the osteoarticular system are among the most difficult to diagnose and treat, due to a number of factors:

  1. morphological and functional characteristics of the bone matrix [29];
  2. frequent use of various abiogenic materials (metal structures, endoprostheses, bone grafts, cements [21,22], etc.);
  3. polymicrobial nature of the colonizing microflora;
  4. latent clinical course, which leads to delayed diagnosis.
