Factors contributing to the development of progressive paralysis
At present, progressive paralysis is looked at as late spirochetosis, as true syphilis of the brain; however, almost everyone admits that for the defeat of c. n. with. some additional conditions are needed for the manifestation of the activity of the spirochete in the nervous tissue. The 5% susceptibility of luetics to progressive paralysis makes researchers look for these conditions in the ‘constitution (Kretschmer, Kalman, Roster, Shostakovichi others). A view was also expressed about the different nature of spirochetes, giving in some cases a picture of general syphilis, in other cases, a picture of neuro-lues. The neurotropic nature of the spirochete is advocated by Levaditi and Marie.
