Determination of the basal metabolic rate according to the Read'a formula
The study of the basal metabolic rate is of great clinical importance as a method of functional testing of the endocrine system; knowledge of the basal metabolic rate is important not only because it helps us to recognize the hyper and hypothyroidism of the thyroid gland, especially with a little characteristic clinical picture, but also because with the help of a systematic study of gas exchange it is possible to obtain data for judging the success of therapeutic measures.
