Modern radiopaque diagnostics of the consequences of vertebrospinal trauma

Abstract

The diagnosis, treatment and outcome of vertebrospinal trauma are determined not only by the primary damage to the vertebrae, surrounding tissues and vessels, but also by the emerging cicatricial and adhesive processes in the membranes of the spinal cord and in the epidural tissues, the development of secondary irreversible degenerative-dystrophic disorders and post-traumatic deformities. This leads to a disorder of the lymph and blood circulation, to ischemia, hypoxia of the spinal cord, and the development of secondary compression syndrome.
