Prof. R.G. Oganov, Director of the Center for Preventive Medicine, RF Ministry of Health (Moscow), touched upon epidemiological aspects of hypertension. High prevalence of arterial hypertension (AH) was found among men and women, and it increases with age, reaching 20-25% by the age of 50. Long-term prospective observations have shown that AH depends on age, body weight and alcohol consumption.
