Open Access Publishing Options

Open Access Publishing Options

· Frontiers of Engineering Management is a hybrid journal: We offer articles as optional open access (OA) upon publication. Authors of accepted articles may choose to pay an article processing charge (APC) to have their articles published as open access. Authors from institutions participating in Springer Nature's Transformative Agreements can publish their articles as open access at no additional cost.

· Transformative Agreements (TAs) provide authors the opportunity to publish open access in hybrid journals through the Open Choice publishing option. The agreement combines the costs of APCs and subscription access for participating institutions. Researchers from these institutions can publish their work open access without incurring extra fees. TAs support Gold Open Access and promote a transition to more transparent and sustainable open access models, while also helping researchers meet their funders' open access requirements.

· The APC is typically covered by the authors' institutions or funding bodies, with a fee of $3,990 USD upon article acceptance.

Frontier of Engineering Management will monitor the developments in generative AI and AI-assisted technologies closely and update the policies as appropriate.

AI Authorship

· Authors may use generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the preparation of their manuscripts. However, these tools should only be used to improve the readability and language of the work. All AI applications must be done under human oversight, with thorough review and editing. Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of their submissions.

· The use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies must be disclosed by including a statement at the end of the manuscript upon submission. This statement should also be included in the published work as a new section before the reference list.

o Example: Statement: In preparation of the manuscript, the author(s) used [TOOL NAME] for [REASON]. The author(s) has(have) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the published article.

· Authors should not list generative AI and AI-assisted technologies as an author or co-author, nor cite AI as an author. Authorship implies responsibilities and tasks that can only be attributed to and performed by humans.

· FEM does not allow generative AI images in submitted manuscripts.

AI use by peer reviewers

· The submitted manuscript and related materials such as reviewer report or decision letter must be treated as a confidential document and should not be uploaded to public-access generative AI technology.

· Generative AI or AI-assisted technologies should not be used by editors in the evaluation or decision-making process of a manuscript. Critical thinking in manuscript evaluation requires that the manuscript must be reviewed by human experts in the field.

· The Associate Editors and reviewers are all responsible for the accuracy of their opinions, decisions, and final report.

· If an associate editor suspects that an author or a reviewer violates our AI policies, it should be reported to the editorial office and publisher.
