Abstract

The problem of transfusion-transmissible infections risk reduction remains one of the actual problems of transfusion medicine in Russia. As to WHO data, each tenth patient needs blood or blood components and preparations transfusions. Pathogen-reduction (inactivation) provides a proactive approach to reducing transfusion-transmissible infections. Several pathogen-inactivation technologies are being developed, with photodynamic inactivation as one of the promising approaches. The article is devoted to a new photodynamic pathogen-inactivation method on the base of fullerenes-nanostructures.
