■Aims and Scope
Urban and infrastructure systems are of fundamental importance to the realization of various urban functions, such as transport, communication and healthcare, and essential for the sustainable development of cities worldwide. With the continuous advancement of urbanization, especially in China, an increasing number of large-scale projects, mega-projects, super-projects, complex engineering systems, urban systems, super-cities, and urban agglomerations, which have ever increasing structural and functional scales and complexities, are seen worldwide. Consequently, the planning, engineering and operation of cities and infrastructures are faced with a variety of emerging and management challenges that stem from the needs for new theories, models and technologies to build efficient, affordable and resilient urban and infrastructure systems. Driven by such needs, research related to the engineering and management of cities and infrastructures has been evolving fast in recent years, with the proposition and development of various methodologies and tools that aim to address the aforementioned challenges. This special issue in Frontiers of Engineering Management is intending to provide an opportunity for exploring new ideas and disseminating latest advancements on the theme “City and Infrastructure Engineering and Management”. High-quality submissions are invited for the special issue that address prominent challenges pertaining to the understanding, analysis and improvement of engineering and management of cities and infrastructures.
